Summary

We live in a close-knit community。 Thirty houses surrounding a square of garden that is perfect for our kids。 We congregate here on major holidays, each family bringing a plate and sharing food and conversation。 It’s in the garden that I first met her。 The woman who would worm her way into my family and piece by piece tear it apart…

I should have known something was wrong from the very beginning。 She seemed perfect in so many ways: she floated through the baby shower, a warm smile on her face, chatting to strangers with ease。 At first I thought it was sweet that she offered to help me, that she made an effort to get to know us, that she brought over games and knew Luna’s favorite foods… I had no idea that I couldn’t trust another mother…

I should have known that someone would eventually discover the secret in my marriage。 Why I never believe a word my husband says—and why he shouldn’t believe me。 But how could a woman I only just met be the one to find it out?

If I’d known, I’d have called the police sooner。

And maybe I’d have prevented that dreadful scene。 Every neighbor peering through their curtains as the sirens wailed in our street。

I could have protected my family。

I could have stopped what happened next…

Fans of Liane Moriarty, Sally Hepworth and The Girl on the Train will love this utterly unputdownable domestic thriller from USA Today bestselling author Nicola Marsh。

This novel slowly coasts along on being mysterious。 The tiny bit of suspense that there is comes from not knowing what's going on, rather than from being gripped by a definite storyline。 This type of semi plotless novel has become very popular recently, and I do enjoy many of them, but I still prefer a good suspenseful plot。 So, while I enjoyed this, only the last 20% really captured my full attention and emotional involvement。 This novel slowly coasts along on being mysterious。 The tiny bit of suspense that there is comes from not knowing what's going on, rather than from being gripped by a definite storyline。 This type of semi plotless novel has become very popular recently, and I do enjoy many of them, but I still prefer a good suspenseful plot。 So, while I enjoyed this, only the last 20% really captured my full attention and emotional involvement。 。。。more

As a romance reader and reviewer, I don't consider myself experienced enough to critique a thriller。 But when one of your favorite authors releases a book in that very genre, you read it anyway。 The Liar Next Door follows the story of three women Frankie, Celest, and Saylor, and the secrets and lies within their close-knit neighborhood。 Although labeled a thriller, it read more like a drama。 It didn't give me the suspense, anxiety, anticipation, and excitement that I would expect from this genre As a romance reader and reviewer, I don't consider myself experienced enough to critique a thriller。 But when one of your favorite authors releases a book in that very genre, you read it anyway。 The Liar Next Door follows the story of three women Frankie, Celest, and Saylor, and the secrets and lies within their close-knit neighborhood。 Although labeled a thriller, it read more like a drama。 It didn't give me the suspense, anxiety, anticipation, and excitement that I would expect from this genre。Although slow to get into the juicy stuff, I'm glad I continued reading because there were elements of the ending that were a surprise and not what I was expecting。 But one plot point that stood out for me involved Celeste, Frankie, and an ex-husband。 The climax involving these three characters lacked oomph。 **SPOILER** I had so many unanswered questions about the murder。 It felt brushed over。As per usual, I can't fault the author's writing。 She is and always will be one of my fav's。Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 All the thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

I love Nicola Marsh's books。 However, The Liar Next Door was just "good" for me。 Don't get me wrong, there is nothing bad about this book, a story of an influencer, her 2 new neighbours and a whole lot of drama。 I felt this book was more "family drama" than thriller。 As I was reading it felt a little chaotic, but came together well in the end。 I still recommend picking this up and any way you shake it, I am looking forward to reading her next book! Nicola Marsh has done it again! Great story that kept me guessing right up until the end。 As usual, just when I think I’ve figured everything out, she throws in another little twist to surprise me。 Loved reading the different perspectives of the various characters。 Easy to follow and hard to put down!

I was soo close to giving this book 2 stars … it seemed to go on forever and nothing was happening。 But the secrets at the end。 Like, what the FUCK。 I don’t know how this stuff was even thought of 🤣 it just seemed to take so so long to get there。 I listened to this on audio, and had to go to 2。2x speed to get to the reveals because otherwise I was going to stop。 I think ultimately it made it worth reading。 The characters are all unlikeable and untrustworthy, which is also a little tough because I was soo close to giving this book 2 stars … it seemed to go on forever and nothing was happening。 But the secrets at the end。 Like, what the FUCK。 I don’t know how this stuff was even thought of 🤣 it just seemed to take so so long to get there。 I listened to this on audio, and had to go to 2。2x speed to get to the reveals because otherwise I was going to stop。 I think ultimately it made it worth reading。 The characters are all unlikeable and untrustworthy, which is also a little tough because there is no one to latch on to。 Frankie and her fake perfect life? Three women, neighbours in an upmarket Brooklyn square。Three secrets。Three liars。。。but which secret will come out first? Which lie will blow up all of their outwardly perfect-seeming lives?Frankie, Celeste and Saylor all get space to tell their stories here, as the chapters are told from alternating points of view rotating around the three of them。 I can’t say I found any of them particularly likable - without giving away who did what, two of them have cheated on their husbands and the third is pushy and judgmental。 It’s not until very late in the book that we understand one of them has already stepped over some hard lines, including killing someone (possibly accidentally - it’s not entirely clear) and covering up the death。 She’s clearly not operating with a full deck, because she takes actions that are illogical when her lie is exposed ahead of her planned timetable。 She cannot possibly have hoped to get away with it; I’m interested as to what exactly she did plan, because we never do really find out。A lot of domestic thrillers go for the ‘one more twist’ right at the very end, and this one does too, BUT, this one gets it right。 Too many of the ‘one more twists’ invalidate everything that came before; this one doesn’t。 It just adds an extra layer to one of the protagonists。I thoroughly enjoyed this。 While the real threat doesn’t emerge until later on, looking back there was a great air of gently creeping menace which slowly built as layers of secrets were revealed。 Five stars for a great domestic thriller I didn’t want to put down。Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley。 。。。more

(Written before I started reading the book)。This novel consists of a prologue, 72 chapters and an epilogue。 The chapters are short in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed。。。OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case! This book is set in Brooklyn, USA 🇺🇸。 This book is written in first person perspective with the main protagonist being Frankie, Saylor and Celeste。 The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them。 If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on。OMG!!!! WHAT DID I JUST READ!?!?! MIND BLOWN!!!! CLEAR YOUR TIMETABLE AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!! Another absolutely fantastic book from Nicola with vivid descriptions which put you right in the picture。 It really felt like Frankie, Saylor and Celeste were talking directly to me from across the table over a cup of tea。 The synopsis and cover suit the book perfectly。 The storyline is absolutely addictive and had me sucked in from the first page until the explosive ending。 I couldn't stop turning the pages until early hours of the morning so if you pick this up I seriously advice you to clear your schedules and also have the tissues at the ready。 It is filled with secrets, blackmail, deceipt, friendship and bombshell after bombshell that I did not see coming!!! A huge well done to Nicola on them EXPLOSIVE REVEALS!!! I would have never guessed either of the twists in a million years。 Very rarely I am shocked by books having read so many but this absolutely had me a cracker and completely blew my mind。 If you are fed up of guessing the ending by 50% then this one is for you!!! Just when you think you couldn't be shocked any more BOOM another one comes out of nowhere!!! Whilst I loved the ending it was also heartbreaking for a certain person and I felt so sorry on him。 It is so hard to talk about it without giving anything away so I will just say if you want a book with a twist you will NEVER see coming this one is for you!!! This book is fast paced with so much action that once you 'pop' you will not be able to stop until you have finished!!! Just when I thought I best finish this chapter and get some sleep BANG another cliff hanger ending so I ended up staying awake until 3am until I finished it and even then I was just completely mind blown。 This book will stay with you for ages!!! It is set over multiple time lines。 When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions。 It also shows the bigger picture。All of the main characters were strong realistic characters and I was completely invested in them all。 I absolutely loved reading about each neighbour and the more I read and the deeper I delved into their secrets, lies and deceit the more shocked I became page after page。 The characters all worked perfectly together for the storyline。 There was only one character by the end that I really felt for and thought was the only innocent victim in it all apart from the children。 I can't say anymore than that as it will give too much away。 AN ABSOLUTELY HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Nicola on what has got to be the book with the most twists in that I have EVER read。 I knew there was a reason you are one of my favourite authors, extremely well deserved。 This would make an absolutely epic movie。 I look forward to your next explosive novel as always!!! Overall an addictive, page turning non stop action packed read with bombshells you will never see coming!!! Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others。 I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'The Girl On The Train', Shalini Boland, fans if Nicola Marsh and absolutely anyone looking for a book that will blow your mind, 321 pages。This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!! Or should she trust her gut? Is Luna safe around Celest and her daughter? The book drags you in, paints a picture you fall in love with and then drops a bombshell that leaves you reconsidering all your opinions。 I could not get enough。Frankie is an amazing character。 She is young and vulnerable, destroyed by her parents' life choices when you meet her and this leads to her making some bad decisions。 However, she recognises her mistakes and tries to make up for them。 You fall in love with her commitment to her daughter and respect her trying to keep her family together even after Andre confesses to cheating on her。 The is an explosive read that is jam-packed with twists you do not expect。 I loved every minute I spent with these characters。Thriller and mystery fans, as well as mom’s of all ages, will find themselves unable to put this one down。 It is a brilliantly twisty tale that will leave you chilled。 This is a fabulous read you will not regret adding to your TBR。 。。。more

This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I found myself not being able to put it down until I finished it。 I was shocked at all of the lies and secrets that were running rampant in Hambridge Heights。 I honestly guessed several of the twists or so I thought but unfortunately the author kept throwing twists in which totally threw me off course。 I never predicted that ending whatsoever。

The past plays a significant role with these women and what makes them the person they are today。 The women are all tied up together somehow and the book flip flops from past to present as you try to put the pieces together。 And when you think all secrets are revealed there's another bombshell that's thrown in at the end。 Overall I like the storyline but it was a little slow-paced for me and the characters were not very likable。 But it was a page-turner for me and I look forward to reading more of this author's books。Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book。 。。。more
